Announces Emergency Department,
Bed Expansion Plans
Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center has announced plans to invest $27 million to expand and
renovate its Emergency Department (ED) and to add a 22-bed all-private room unit to the third
floor of the critical care wing.
The $13.2 million ED expansion and renovation project will increase adult ED capacity by eight
beds (from 24 beds to 32 beds) and it will increase pediatric capacity by five beds (from 7 beds to
12 beds). The expansion will add approximately 10,300 square-feet to the east of the existing ED.
Once completed, approximately 26,000 square-feet of the ED will be expanded and renovated.
The $13.7 million, 22-bed all-private room unit will be housed on the third floor of the critical
care wing. In October 2013, Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center unveiled a three-story 42-bed
critical care wing, which includes a 20-bed adult-level Intensive Care Unit on the first floor and a
four-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and 18-bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on the
second floor.
“We are truly excited about these two expansion projects as it will allow us to improve efficiency
and quality of care, as well as, provide our patients with an exceptional healing environment. For
the past three years, Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center has invested over $60 million into Bay
County and its surrounding communities. The continued investment will allow us to create more
job opportunities for individuals in our community,” said Carlton Ulmer, president and chief
executive officer at Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center.
